Although Daisy is a vain, shallow girl, this fails to impress her. She is old money, while Gatsby is new money. He is dying to be accepted by her and Tom as one of them. But this is not what either of them want. Tom loathes Gatsby; Daisy loves him, but not his persona. And all this is what Nick notices, seeing the party through Daisy's eyes.
