Harriet Tubman was a famous African American leader who was a conductor on the Underground Railroad. She was born into slavery, but escaped and dedicated her life to helping other enslaved people escape to freedom. She became known as the "Moses of her people" for her work on the Underground Railroad, which was a network of safe houses and secret routes that enslaved people used to escape to freedom. She made many dangerous trips back into the slave states to help others escape, and is credited with helping hundreds of enslaved people find freedom
