1. To know that Aspirin has been around (in different forms) for an extremely long time, you could use a quote such as: "The ancient Egyptians and Greeks used willow bark, which contains salicylic acid, to relieve pain and reduce fever." This quote shows that Aspirin has a long history dating back to ancient civilizations.

4. One reason why people surveyed in 1996 selected Aspirin as "an invention couldn't live without" could be due to its effectiveness in relieving pain. A quote that supports this reason could be: "Aspirin is a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory drug that has been used for over 100 years to treat a variety of ailments." This quote suggests that Aspirin has a long history of being used to alleviate pain and inflammation, which could be why it was seen as an essential invention by those surveyed in 1996.

What are the direct quotes?

A direct quote is a verbatim repetition of the words that someone else has spoken or written. It is a way of reproducing someone else's words exactly as they were said or written, using quotation marks to indicate that the words are not your own.

Direct quotes are typically used to provide evidence or support for a claim, to illustrate a point, or to add authority or credibility to a piece of writing. They are an important tool in academic and journalistic writing, and they should be used carefully to accurately represent the source material and to give credit to the original speaker or writer.

Here is an example of a direct quote:

Martin Luther King Jr.’s powerful quote serves as a reminder of the power of civil disobedience and the importance of understanding the power dynamics of oppression. It is only when we come together and make our voices heard that we can create meaningful and lasting change.

The quote speaks to the idea of non-violent resistance, a concept championed by Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders. The power of civil disobedience is rooted in the fact that it is a peaceful form of protest that does not require violence or destruction of property. Instead, it relies on the power of the collective to come together and make their voices heard. This type of protest is especially powerful when individuals come together to make a statement about an issue that affects the entire community.

The quote also speaks to the importance of understanding the power dynamics of oppression and how they play out in our lives. In order to truly understand the power of civil disobedience, it is essential to examine the ways in which systems of oppression are perpetuated and maintained through the use of power and privilege. It is only when we understand the dynamics of power and oppression that we can effectively challenge them.

Can anyone help me figure out how to make my essay longer/better??

Like many kids, I enjoyed getting dirty and playing rough when I was younger. Often I would find myself coming back inside at the end of the day with many cuts and bruises. Still, I would brush it off like nothing because the fun I would always have justified my injuries. However, I had to find out the hard way just how badly one can get hurt when they act carelessly. On July 5, 2018, my parents decided to rent a blowup water slide for my youngest sister's birthday. They have done this for my siblings and me in prior years. However, this year's only difference was the dare-devil that arose in me.

I remember this day quite well, considering it was one of my life's most traumatizing and fun days. It was a beautiful hot summer day in July, perfect for making a splash. It was also my sister's birthday. I remember helping with the decorations and waiting eagerly for the guest to arrive so I could have first dibs on the slide. However, as the time came closer to the party, I still became more annoyed that my mother was forcing me to wait. It felt almost as if she was teasing me.

But at last, the time came, and the guest arrived. I was free to have fun. From the fun I was having, I lost track of time and realized it was time for presents and cake. During this time, my oldest brother told me he didn't believe I had the guts to do a backflip off the top of the slide hearing this, I became frustrated and refused to back down from the dare. When I walked away from the table, I told him to watch as he would see that I could prove him wrong.

Walking up the slide stairs, I had an overwhelming amount of fear rush over me because I knew that I could not go through with it. Although my brother may have already known I could not do it, I still felt obligated to prove I could. As I turned around and began to flip, I had instant regret because I had no idea how this was about to end. Hitting the bottom of the slide, not only did I hear the water splash, but I felt a snap. I quickly began to cry and scream from the pain and realized I had injured my arm very badly. While my brother was trying to comfort me, my mother rushed to see what had happened. She and my brother quickly rushed me to the ER, where I soon found out that I had broken my arm. Although I was in pain, I could still shove it in my brother's face that he was wrong. On the other hand, It's safe to say that the fun I had did not justify my injuries in this situation.

This story is important because it reminds me not to back down from a challenge even if there is a possible bad outcome. And because It will always be a nice story to bring up in the future to have a good laugh about.

No literature is truly free from political bias, according to Orwell. He goes on to say that this motivation is employed frequently in all forms of writing in the broadest sense and that everyone has a "desire to push the world in a specific way."

The writing of George Orwell is straightforward and resembling journalism. He seldom makes long metaphors or references. He never, however, uses superfluous imagery or flowery, inflated descriptions. A key difference between the Transcendentalists and the Dark Romantics is that the Dark Romantics __________.

Question options:

championed reason over intuition or imagination

denied the spiritual side of nature

explored the darker sides of the human soul

believed in the innocence of all people

Answers

Answer:

Explored the darker sides of the human soul.

Explanation:

Transcendentalism and Dark Romanticism are two literary movements that emerged in 19th-century America. The Transcendentalists, such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, emphasized the importance of intuition and imagination in understanding the world, and celebrated the spiritual dimension of nature. In contrast, the Dark Romantics, such as Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne, focused on the darker and more mysterious aspects of human psychology, and explored themes such as sin, guilt, and the supernatural. One key difference between the two movements is that while the Transcendentalists celebrated the goodness of human nature and the power of the human mind, the Dark Romantics were more interested in exploring the darker sides of the human soul, and the ways in which people could be overcome by their own fears and desires.

Answer:

Here's Options for both as well as responses:

Pro:

We should make a home in space because it would be a significant step forward for humanity. By establishing a permanent presence in space, we could gain access to valuable resources and conduct research in a unique environment that is not possible on Earth. Additionally, having a home in space would provide a backup plan for the eventuality of Earth becoming uninhabitable, ensuring the survival of the human species.

Furthermore, establishing a home in space would require significant technological advancements, which would drive innovation and create new industries and jobs. It would also inspire the next generation to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math, helping to secure the future of our civilization.

Con:

We should not make a home in space because it is currently too expensive and risky. The cost of sending people and materials into space is prohibitively high, and there are many unknowns about the long-term effects of living in space on the human body. It would be much more practical to invest in making Earth a better place to live, rather than trying to establish a home in a hostile environment.

Additionally, there are many pressing problems on Earth that need to be addressed, such as poverty, inequality, and climate change. Instead of spending vast amounts of money and resources on establishing a home in space, we should focus on solving these problems and improving the lives of people on Earth.

Response to Peer 1 (Pro):

While it is true that establishing a home in space could provide access to valuable resources and conduct research in a unique environment, it is not clear that the benefits would outweigh the costs. The cost of sending people and materials into space is currently prohibitively high, and there is no guarantee that we would be able to find and extract the resources we need. It would be much more practical to invest in developing technology that allows us to utilize resources on Earth more efficiently.

Response to Peer 2 (Con):

While it is true that there are many pressing problems on Earth that need to be addressed, establishing a home in space could ultimately help us to solve these problems. By developing the technology and infrastructure to support a permanent presence in space, we could drive innovation and create new industries and jobs. This would generate wealth and resources that could be used to address the problems on Earth, such as poverty and climate change. Additionally, having a backup plan in case Earth becomes uninhabitable would help to ensure the long-term survival of the human species.
