Nights and Dragons—
From the memoir of author Abigail Prynne

I could have given up, but I thought about my grandmother. She always told me that "people who believe that science is the answer to everything are missing out on everything else." With her words in mind, I searched some more. There were many facts that hinted that dragons may not be fictional. I noticed that cultures across the world all described dragons in similar ways. This was odd because they had no way to communicate with each other. I found dragons mentioned in more than just stories. They appeared in old legal papers, in the travel logs of Marco Polo, and in the Bible. I saw that the Chinese calendar uses a different animal each year. Dragons are included along with eleven real animals. I began to believe it was a real possibility that all of these people were talking about a creature that actually existed.

The text discusses the Chinese calendar by writing, "Dragons are included along with eleven real animals."

What does that imply?

Dragons are the only fake animal on the Chinese calendar.
Dragons are not the only fake animal on the Chinese calendar.
Dragons are real because all the other animals on the calendar are fake.
Dragons are real because all the other animals on the calendar are real.

What is the most famous wine region in France?

Famous grape varietals like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Sauvignon Blanc may be found in Bordeaux, which is regarded as the most famous wine region in France.

A variety of red grapes, including grenache, syrah, Mourvedre, and cinsault, are typically blended to create the region's red wines and rosés. There may be up to 21 different grape varieties used, but grenache must account for at least 30% of the final mix because it is the most important component.

Read the excerpt from act 2, scene 1, of Julius Caesar.
[BRUTUS.] Let us be sacrificers, but not butchers, Caius.
We all stand up against the spirit of Caesar,
And in the spirit of men there is no blood.
O, that we then could come by Caesar's spirit,
And not dismember Caesar!
Why is this passage an example of verbal irony?
Brutus wants to stand up to the spirit of Caesar.
Brutus is the one the priests call on to offer sacrifices to the gods.
O Brutus says he does not want to be seen as a butcher, but that is what the Romans will remember after he stabs
his friend
O Brutus and Caius do not believe in spirits or in the gods.

Answers

Answer:

Brutus says he does not want to be seen as a butcher, but that is what the Romans will remember after he stabs  his friend.

Explanation:

Verbal irony is a figure of speech when one thing is said but the exact opposite happens. In other words, we can say verbal irony is when what is said and what is done are contrary to each other.

In the given excerpt from William Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Julius Caesar", Brutus' declaration of "let us be sacrificers, not butchers" is an example of verbal irony. This is because his expression is contrary to what he had done after "butchering" his friend Caesar.

Thus, the correct answer is the third option.

An example of verbal irony in the passage is: Brutus says he does not want to be seen as a butcher, but that is what the Romans will remember after he stabs  his friend.

Verbal irony occurs when a person says or writes one thing, but the opposite is what plays out. Brutus was the mastermind of the murder of Caesar his friend.

While he says that they should not be butchers but sacrificers, he eventually proved to be a butcher when he initiated the death of the Roman leader Caesar.

Thus we see verbal irony playing out. Therefore, option c is correct.
