The views Caroline Lee Hentz expressed in the passage from The Planter's Northern Bride became popular throughout the South during the 19th century in response to which of the following developments?

One thing is certain . . . that during our residence in the South, we have never witnessed one scene of cruelty or oppression [toward slaves] . . . more severe than parental authority would be justified in applying. . . .

On the contrary, we have been touched and gratified by the exhibition of affectionate kindness and care on one side, and loyal and devoted attachment on the other. We have been especially struck with the cheerfulness and contentment of the slaves. . . . We give it as our honest belief, that the negroes of the South are the happiest labouring class on the face of the globe. . . . The fugitives who fly to the Northern States are no proof against the truth of this statement. They have most of them been made disaffected by the influence of others—tempted by promises which are seldom fulfilled.

Write a four hundred word essay telling the significance the Battle of Saratoga had on the Continental Army
and on the colonies. Your essay should contain a claim and supporting evidence and should address any
counterclaims.

Answers

Answer:

During the time of the American Revolution, there were many battles that took place and affected the Revolution. One battle though, made a huge impact on the American Revolution. The Battle of Saratoga proved that the disadvantaged and weaker American forces were strong enough to overpower the British forces. It all started when General John Burgoyne needed to get his forces to Albany. He and his army headed across the Hudson River, where they would then take a road south-ward to Albany. Burgoyne knew the enemy (American forces) were in the area, but he did not know of their exact location. Leading to the Battles of Bemis Heights and Freeman's Farm, the Battle of Saratoga became known as a highly significant battle.

Freeman was a Loyalist who had earlier left for Canada. After about three hours of battle, the Americans ran out of ammunition, making them have to retreat. The British then claimed victory at Freeman's Farm.

Freeman's Farm was located on the west side bank of the Hudson River. It was right near Bemis Heights, making it easy for people to build fortifications in the woods and high outcroppings. It was located a few miles away from Burgoyne's destination of Albany. It was a perfect location for an army to fight and keep themselves in somewhat of an alright sanctuary. During the Battle, both sides used different tactics and strategies. Burgoyne decided to go with a risky strategy of dividing his army into three columns, two towards Bemis Heights and one to follow the road that paralleled the Hudson. The American forces (led by Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold) placed expert riflemen (led by Daniel Morgan) in charge of taking out the left flank of the British (led by Simon Frasier). This strategy worked well for the Americans, of course until they ran out of ammunition. The battle (of Freeman's Farm) was officially ended when Burgoyne heard word from Sir Henry Clinton. Clinton was getting ready to leave New York City and come assist Burgoyne with the continuous battles.

How was the Netherlands more democratic than most 17th-century European

nations?

Answers

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Although there are no options attached, we can say the following.

The Netherlands was more democratic than most 17th-century European nations in that in those years, the Netherlands was formed by seven provinces under one confederation. People from each providence elected their rulers and the provinces were independentist but decently related to the other provinces.

In 1588, these providences accepted to form the Republic of United Netherlands, and this decision made the nation stronger, making the Netherlands a superpower in Europe, in a time when European monarchies and absolutist kings dominated many lands in the continent and abroad.

How much government regulation of
pay (minimum wage, CEO
compensation), working conditions
(safety), product safety, etc. should
there be, if any in your opinion?

Answers

Answer:

The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA, herein referred to as “the act”), known primarily as the

minimum wage and overtime law, was passed during a period when our nation was experiencing an

economic recovery from the Great Depression. Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL)

Wage and Hour Division, the act was designed to encourage employers to hire more employees in lieu

of scheduling overtime and to prevent unfair competition by requiring all employers to pay a minimum

wage and overtime for all work in excess of 40 hours per work week. By requiring overtime pay, the act

created a monetary penalty for employers who did not spread their existing work among a greater

number of employees. The act, in essence, provided an incentive to hire more people rather than

increase the hours worked by existing employees.

The act did not cover government employees until a series of amendments (1966 and 1974) and court

challenges extended coverage to state and government employees. Maryland v. Wirtz, 392 U.S. 183

(1968); Employees of the Department of Public Health and Welfare v. Missouri, 411 U.S. 279

(1973); National League of Cities v. Usery, 426 U.S. 833 (1976); and Garcia v. San Antonio

Metropolitan Transit Authority, 469 U.S. 528 (1985); overruling recognized by Payne v. Tennessee, 501

U.S. 808, 111 S.Ct. 2597, 115 L.Ed.2d 720, 59 USLW 4814 (U.S.Tenn. Jun 27, 1991). Even so,

application of all the provisions of the act to governments was further delayed until August 1992. This

delay was due to issues of the salary basis test for public employers and exempt employees’ pay for

partial-day absences (public accountability).

The FLSA contains minimum wage, overtime pay, and record keeping requirements and restricts child

labor. These provisions apply to all state and local government employees except certain workers

excluded from the FLSA definition of “employee” and employees who may qualify for exemption from

the requirements of the act. The act establishes a definition of “hours worked” and provides the

conditions under which overtime pay is due. It also provides a partial overtime exemption for certain

categories of employees.

Though the act addresses many issues surrounding wages, it does not require:

• Extra pay for Saturday, Sunday, or holidays;

• Pay for vacations or holidays, or severance pay;

• Discharge notices;

• Limits on the number of hours of work for employees 16 years of age or over, as long as overtime pay provisions are met; or

• Time off for holidays or vacations. (If employees work on holidays, they need not be paid at

time and one-half or any other premium rate.)

The act can be enforced by private employee lawsuits or by action of the Department of Labor. If the

DOL is involved, special investigative procedures are used. The Wage and Hour Division of DOL is

responsible for implementing regulations under the FLSA and enforcing compliance with the act. Should

the employer lose a case in court, the employee generally collects back pay and liquidated damages.

There is a two-year statute of limitation under the act, extending to three years if a violation is willful.

Attorney fees, too, generally are recoverable.

The government should set the standards of minimum pays, working conditions and product safety in such a way that the people working have an efficient environment to work with.

There are various Acts through which the government may bring about changes or amendments in the regulations in such Acts which will help in solving the problems of workmen.

For setting minimum pay there can be standards like work provided for over 40 hours per week will be liable for incentives and CEO compensation should be able to qualify similar kinds of needs for providing his time to the company.

Working conditions shall be strictly mandated like proper arrangements to work with, facilities like canteen, separate restrooms for men and women, ventilation, parking facilities, etc. and proper compensation be implied.

With regards to product safeties, a strict rule must be imposed on the plagiarism or illegal use of any content registered under company's name with strict penalties and imprisonments, if required.

Hence, there are various impositions, changes and amendments that may be implied by the government for minimum pay wages, working conditions of employees, product safety, etc.

What impact did the industrial revolution have on the environment? How did these impacts affect the lives of people lived in industrial societies?

Answers

Answer:

The negative impacts that the Industrial Revolution had on the environment were air pollution which caused health issues in many people such as factory workers.

The Industrial Revolution had a severe influence on the environment because air pollution led to health problems for a lot of people, including industrial employees.

What impact did the industrial revolution have on the environment?

The number of toxins that the Industrial Revolution spewed into the environment was one of its most significant environmental effects. Cities that were too crowded have unsanitary environments and filthy streets. The coal-powered steam engine at the factory produced pollutants to be vented into the environment. An agrarian economy gave way to an industrial economy during the Industrial Revolution, where things were no longer only manufactured by hand but also by machines.

This resulted in an uptick in output and efficiency, as well as decreased prices, growth in products and services, higher earnings, and a movement of people from rural to urban regions. Some of the negative effects were soil contamination, water pollution, and air pollution, all of which significantly reduced life expectancy and quality of life. Additionally, industrialization made the division of labor and capital.
