Utopias & Dystopias: Comparing & Contrasting Two Different Worlds

Utopia, and dystopia, two different worlds, two similar names, yet so different in so many ways. A paradise, or a world gone wrong. Equal, or unequal. Perfect, or not. So many factors influence the living conditions that are in either the not-near future or what could have been our past.

Utopias were quite popular during the 19 century when William Morris wrote News From Nowhere in the late 1800's. People strive to create utopias in the US. A few of the places where utopian communities were started include Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Iowa, and New York. None of the creators succeeded, although having good intentions.

Dystopians, as stated earlier, are the exact opposite. The Giver, by Lois Lowry is a perfect example of this. Lowry wrote the book to show her discontent in the lack of awareness humans have about giving their rights and independence to another party, who often uses means of getting rid of anything that may be violating the policy of "sameness". Some examples in the book are when the Council gets rid of color, and the main character gets frustrated knowing that he would not have an opinion in the color of clothes her wears, what music he listens to and much more.

Although Jonas' community may seem highly utopian, children being given training for their future careers, it is highly dystopian. The society is run by an oli-garchy, which is a government run by a few people - in this case, the Community of Elders enforced the "laws". In his community, there is no drought, starvation, lack of housing, poverty, or even prejudice. Although we notice later in the book that the entire area has given up their basic rights, their freedoms, for this "common good" that people are being blinded by. The Community is aware of this, and thereby forbids that anyone from sharing the details of their job, even with their "family". Jonas realizes this is nothing but hypocrisy, and a society based on false ideals of goodness and conformity.

Overall, utopias are a place of ideal goodness, a place where everything is uniform, which in my opinion, would be a place where females and males have equal rights, and an equal say in politics, roles, and there would be no stereotypes restricting people based on gender identity, race, ethnicity, or income. Income would be at various costs depending on how large the family would be, and everyone would receive an education specifically to their career options, which would be based on their interests. There would not be climate change, plastic pollution, or an increased population, doesn't that sound ideal? However, with the world we have created today, it would be almost impossible for us to mold the already-hardened clay.

To sum up my statement, utopias are where there are no problems or issues presented, where everyone is equal, and all-in-all, an ideal society that everyone feels safe. A dystopia would be one where there is a group, person, or area controlling the entire community, whose ideas are presented in The Hunger Games, Animal Farm, The City of Ember, and many other extraordinary books.

Residual values are the difference between Given and predicted value. That is:

Residual Value = Given - Predicted

a = 4.1 - 4.5 = -0.4

a = -0.4

What is garbage ?

Waste (or wastes) are resources that are undesired or useless. Waste is anything that is thrown away after its primary use or that is useless, broken, or ineffective. Contrarily, a by-product is a joint output that has little or no economic value. An invention that increases a waste product's worth over zero can turn it into a by-product, joint product, or resource.

Examples include sewage, which contains human waste (faeces and urine), surface runoff, hazardous waste, radioactive waste, and municipal solid waste (home trash/refuse).

garbage is subjective; what one person considers to be garbage may be considered a resource by another. Despite being a real item, garbage is produced through both physical and psychological processes.

One way to rewrite the sentence to remove ambiguous and remote references is "The IRS can answer income tax questions that people have."

How can we avoid being ambiguous?

When writing, you should try to be as specific as you can while keeping true to your purpose of writing.

In this case, saying that the IRS can help with questions is ambiguous because we don't know the kind of help that the IRS gives. Saying instead that the IRS can answer these questions is more specific.

Answers

Answer:

She believes in adherence to societal expectations.

Explanation:

Oscar Wilde's comedy play "The Importance of Being Ernest" revolves around the story of two men, Algernon "Algy" Moncrieff and John "Jack" Worthing. The play follows the men through their desire to enjoy some excitement in their lives, for which they made up names and identities to be able to enjoy some 'downtime'.

In the given excerpt of the play, the character of Miss Prism is revealed to be the one who placed Jack in the bag. But when jack revealed the truth and called her "mother", Miss Prism "recoil[ed] in indignant astonishment". This reaction seems to suggest that she believes in strict adherence to society's expectations, especially of women. That was why she did not really acceptable to be called "mother" as she's still "unmarried."

O A Simile
O B Onomatopoeia
C Line Break
D Phrase

Answers

Answer:

C. Line Break

Explanation:

A poem can be defined as a literary work that comprises of written or spoken words that are chosen and arranged carefully in separate lines, often in short lines based on their sound (diction), meaning, and rhythm.

There are different types of poems and these includes the following; free verse, sonnet, ode, elegies, fixed verse, etc.

A line break can be defined as a poetic device used by authors or writers to terminate or end a line of a poem and begin a new line in a poem.

Basically, line breaks differentiates a poet from a prose because it helps both the poet and the reader to clearly understand where and why a line in a poem breaks (ends).

Hence, the place where a line of poetry ends to create rhythm or give a poem a particular appearance is called a line break.

This ultimately implies that, a line break may be governed by sound, rhythm, or meter depending on the choice of a poet. An example of a poetic line break is;

Answer

The Ancient Greeks were incredibly imaginative and innovative in their depictions of scenes from The Odyssey, painted onto vases, kylikes, wine jugs, or mixing bowls. Many of Homer’s epic scenes can be found on these objects such as the encounter between Odysseus and the Cyclops Polyphemus and the battle with the Suitors. It is clear that in the Greek culture, The Odyssey was an influential and eminent story with memorable scenes that have resonated throughout generations of both classical literature enthusiasts and art aficionados and collectors. We present a brief slideshow of images that appear in Barry B. Powell’s new free verse translation of The Odyssey.

After the fight against the suitors, Eurykleia tries to persuade Penelope that her husband has returned. Shown here, the mourning Penelope sits in a traditional pose with her hand to her forehead and her legs crossed. Her head is veiled. Explanation:

The original passage is-

The field of developmental psychology deals with changes in mental and behavioral performance over time, the field began with a focus on child psychology, it has grown to track changes throughout a lifetime.

Now, the problem in the above passage is in the use of the comma between the three independent sentences. To make the passage complete and correct, the first part of the passage will be taken as a single sentence. Then, with the remaining two sentences, the conjunction "although" can be used to present and join the two independent sentences.

Thus, the correct sentence is the second option.
