How does viewing Byzantine representational art as Icons/Windows change the interpretations we give them? Does that adequately account for the change in style to more simplified and non-natural forms? Or do you think that there was a loss in artistic skill after the fall of the Roman Empire? Is the Byzantine understanding of Icon helpful in understanding our obsession with art in museums, where we place singular objects against a blank white wall within temple like complexes to be revered and honored?

Answers

Answer:

Byzantine icons are religious motivated paintings.

Explanation:

Our artistic value of the icons is influenced by the religious atmosphere.

As far as I know, there hasn´t been a change in style nor a loss of artistic skill. Rather, the Byzantine art flourished after the fall of the East Roman Empire and maintained this throughout the existence of the Byzantine Empire that lasted until 1453 (Fall of Constantinople). Even nowadays the Byzantine art & icons of the Christian Ortodox countries in Eastern Europe is still very much alive.

Byzantine icons can be considered as an devotional art form where the religious person depicted in the painting is the object of worshipping, not the painting itself.

Speaking of, the striking resemblence in the worshipping of byzantine icons (religiously motivated) and modern art (culturally motivated) is hard to be overseen and sure looks like obsession.

Explanation:

The regimes of Iosiv Stalin (USSR), Benito Mussolini (Italy) and Adolf Hitler (Germany) were totalitarian, not authoritarian, since those regimes pretended to subordinate everything to the power of state. Only the regime of Francisco Franco could be considered as authoritarian.

On the other hand, the regime of Hitler was more moderate by allowing the existence of private property and private owning of means of production, but exist a strong State interventionism, and justification of genocide by considering certain people as inferior regarding to Germans. The regimens of Mussolini and Franco were even more moderate by allowing a limited freedom to Roman Catholicism.

a. Wilson’s theory of tasks
b. principal-agent problem
c. standard operating procedure problem
d. incentivizing problem

Answer: B

The two parties have different stakes at hand and one cannot directly ensure that they are always acting in their best interest. This problem usually arises when one person has the power to make decisions for another, which is why it's called the "principle-agent" problem. In this case, Yousef has the power over whether or not Isabella get's that variance for her deck, and he might not give it to her since it wouldn't be in his best interests.

What were the 2 problems with indentured servants?

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

Indentured Servants In The U.S.

Indentured servants first arrived in America in the decade following the settlement of Jamestown by the Virginia Company in 1607.

The idea of indentured servitude was born of a need for cheap labor. The earliest settlers soon realized that they had lots of land to care for, but no one to care for it. With passage to the Colonies expensive for all but the wealthy, the Virginia Company developed the system of indentured servitude to attract workers. Indentured servants became vital to the colonial economy.

The timing of the Virginia colony was ideal. The Thirty Year's War had left Europe's economy depressed, and many skilled and unskilled laborers were without work. A new life in the New World offered a glimmer of hope; this explains how one-half to two-thirds of the immigrants who came to the American colonies arrived as indentured servants.

Servants typically worked four to seven years in exchange for passage, room, board, lodging and freedom dues. While the life of an indentured servant was harsh and restrictive, it wasn't slavery. There were laws that protected some of their rights. But their life was not an easy one, and the punishments meted out to people who wronged were harsher than those for non-servants. An indentured servant's contract could be extended as punishment for breaking a law, such as running away, or in the case of female servants, becoming pregnant.

For those that survived the work and received their freedom package, many historians argue that they were better off than those new immigrants who came freely to the country. Their contract may have included at least 25 acres of land, a year's worth of corn, arms, a cow and new clothes. Some servants did rise to become part of the colonial elite, but for the majority of indentured servants that survived the treacherous journey by sea and the harsh conditions of life in the New World, satisfaction was a modest life as a freeman in a burgeoning colonial economy.

In 1619 the first black Africans came to Virginia. With no slave laws in place, they were initially treated as indentured servants, and given the same opportunities for freedom dues as whites. However, slave laws were soon passed – in Massachusetts in 1641 and Virginia in 1661 –and any small freedoms that might have existed for blacks were taken away.

As demands for labor grew, so did the cost of indentured servants. Many landowners also felt threatened by newly freed servants demand for land. The colonial elite realized the problems of indentured servitude. Landowners turned to African slaves as a more profitable and ever-renewable source of labor and the shift from indentured servants to racial slavery had begun.

How could the USA’s westward expansion cause an intense debate over slavery?

Answers

Answer:

Westward was also Southward

Explanation:

First we have to bare in mind that the Founding Fathers of the US were quite comfortable with slavery. As Alexander von Humboldt found out when he visited Thomas Jefferson at the start of the 19th century. Slavery was the only issue of dispute between the scientist and the political leader.

The westward expansion (Manifest Destiny) in the 19th century carried slavery down into the Southwest, into Mississipi, Alabama, Lousiana and finally into Texas (1840). The rapid expansion of the United States intensified the issue of slavery. So southern states that depended heavily on slavery were added to the union that ultimately didn´t proof to be very united (civil war) 20 years later.

Who was John Brown? What did he believe?

Answers

Answer:

John Brown was an American abolitionist. Brown advocated the use of armed insurrection to overthrow the institution of slavery in the United States. He first gained national attention when he led small groups of volunteers during the Bleeding Kansas crisis of 1856. He was dissatisfied with the pacifism of the organized abolitionist movement: "These men are all talk. What we need is action—action!" In May 1856, Brown and his supporters killed five supporters of slavery in the Pottawatomie massacre, which responded to the sacking of Lawrence by pro-slavery forces. Brown then commanded anti-slavery forces at the Battle of Black Jack and the Battle of Osawatomie.
