This is mainly because the French believe in moderation. Another thing I found is that it is much rarer to eat fast food in France than in the United States. The number of times French people eat is also different, where - while they do eat three meals - they never snack between meals like many Americans would. Finally, the French place great importance on lunch and make it their biggest meal, whereas Americans tend to have a bigger dinner.
